1. Measure your walls

Group walls only when both dimensions match. Measure each wall at its widest and tallest points.

2. Subtract openings

Add doors or windows you will not paint. Don't count overlapping openings twice; reveals and trim are separate.

3. Read the paint label

The initial coverage is an example. Replace it with your product's stated coverage per coat. If the label gives a range, use the lower value for a more cautious estimate. US gallons only.

Your planning estimate

These are estimates. Wall condition, application, product specifications, pattern placement and mistakes can change the quantity. Verify with your supplier before ordering.

Measure once. Check twice.

  1. Work in one unit and measure every wall. Use the tallest point where ceilings are uneven.
  2. Use the coverage, roll dimensions and match information for the exact product.
  3. Review the calculation notes, then confirm the order quantity and matching batch with your supplier.

A little room for reality

Paint excludes ceilings, woodwork, primer and repairs. Wallpaper uses full-height strips, leaves openings in the wall measurement and does not reuse offcuts. Its conservative cutting plan can exceed an installer's optimized estimate.
